Delicious Basic Hummus Recipe

Delicious Basic Hummus Recipe
[Kyla Carneiro]

Hummus helps keep me healthy. I usually eat it with veggies for a quick lunch and feel satisfied. I heard it was fairly simple to make, so I decided to try making it myself. It really is as easy as they (they being the hummus gods) say!

This recipe is the base you’ll need before crafting your own more intensive flavors like roasted garlic, spinach, or sundried tomato hummus, inspired by this recipe. After you’ve mastered this plain hummus recipe, you can simply add flavors to it the next time you use it.

I don’t have a food processor, but I do have the amazing Ninja which is powerful enough to function as a processor. The Ninja is narrow, so when trying to scrape the sides, I use these mini spatulas you can get almost anywhere. They are lifesavers for digging foods out of cans and other small containers in all my cooking.

This recipe calls for minced garlic, so I have to share about this garlic chopper that I use, the GarlicZoom by Chef’n, which you can get on Amazon. It feels as though you’re racing a car across your counter, so I’m sure kids would enjoy helping (I don’t mind it either).
This recipe is really simple, so no more tips from me. I loved every bit of my first batch of homemade hummus, and I hope you enjoy yours, too!

Instructions
  1. Pour the lemon juice and tahini into your food processor or blender, and blend on high for one minute. Scrape the sides.
  2. Add the garlic, olive oil, cumin, and salt. Blend on high for another minute, then scrape the sides.
  3. Finally, add the garbanzo beans and blend for one minute. Scrape the sides, and blend again. Now, scrape the sides and bottom, then add water to thin out the mixture and blend until combined.
Recipe Notes

Sprinkle paprika on top, and store in an air-tight container in the fridge. Serve with crackers, on your sandwich, or with your favorite vegetables. It stays good for several weeks and serves four.
