Poppin’ Pallets [Lauryn Miller]
For anyone who is attempting to pursue a side business or a full on career – do not take no for an answer! Push to make your dream happen.
I’m Lauryn, one of the co-founders of Poppin’ Pallets, an in-home customized painting company. My business partner Laura and I have been best friends since we were in 8th grade. We’ve done everything together. Between going through our “hard metal” phase (don’t ask), taking bad prom pictures, cruising through road trips, and standing in each other’s weddings, it’s safe to say we are much more like sisters than friends.
In the summer of 2016, Laura, who is the artistic force behind the company, had been approached many times to host an in-home party. She expressed to me how she’d love to do this, but just didn’t have the manpower or time. That’s where Poppin’ Pallets was created.
We started out with our first small party with some friends as a pilot, and it was a huge success! We then decided to create a Facebook page (because it’s only official when it’s on social media) and now we currently have a super long waiting list for our parties. Yay!
But, real talk. There were times where we felt we couldn’t do this. But, between making the pallets, to coordinating the parties, to navigating the waters of being both business partners and best friends – everything has been worth it. Poppin’ Pallets was started with two girls who are passionate about people – and that has never changed.
In fact, we’ve found the key to make our parties is exactly that: being passionate about the people. 90% of the women who walk into one of our parties say something along the lines of “I’m not creative at all! You’re going to have to paint mine for me!” But, after a little bit of coaching, they walk away with the beautiful, customized home decor.
We don’t want our guests stressing about their design or hating the outcome – this business is about helping people unlock their creative potential and leaving our party confidently.
We’re in the business of tenacity. That’s why we love Bright Life Studio, who encourages women to create “boldly by you”.
By overcoming our own fears and stresses, this journey has been nothing short of amazing. We have met so many incredible women along the way. The best part of it all has been listening to the countless stories from women. As each customer is painting their wood pallet, we learn how each design represents overcoming a trial, a memorial of a lost loved one, or a customized gift for a friend.
Nothing beats learning from other women. The community is worth it all.
